On Monday Facebook India said it has appointed Rajiv Aggarwal as the Director of Public Policy and he is also an ex-IAS office with 26 years of experience and former Uber executive. He has worked as a District Magistrate in nine districts across the state of Uttar Pradesh. The statement said, during his tenure as an administrative officer, he directed India’s first-ever national policy on Intellectual Property Rights (IPRs) as Joint Secretary in the Department for Promotion of Industry and Internal Trade (M/o Commerce), and was instrumental in the digital transformation of India’s IP offices.
Rajiv Aggarwal replaced Ankhi Das, who resigned in October last year after the social media giant was embroiled in a hate speech controversy in the country. Aggarwal being the head of Public Policy defines and guides notable policy development enterprise for Facebook in India on an objective that covers user safety, data protection, and privacy, insertion, and Internet governance. Besides being India’s lead negotiator on IPRs with other nations, Aggarwal has also been closely associated with the India-US bilateral trade forum.
In this role, Aggarwal will report to Ajit Mohan, Vice President and Managing Director of Facebook India, and will also are a part of the India leadership team. Ajit Mohan once said that Facebook is a combination of the stirring economic and social change that India is seeing, with digital playing a central role.
Aggarwal’s appointment comes after a series of senior and leadership enrollment in recent months across marketing, partnerships, communications, and other key verticals exhibiting the company’s enlarging charter and commitment to India.
